Amarellis Cermeno allegedly tried to attack a Haverhill cop before she was busted
A Massachusetts woman scrawled the Devil's number "666" multiple times on a church building before trying to attack a cop with a stolen metal crucifix, police said.
Amarellis Cermeno allegedly used black marker pen to ink the digits associated with the anti-Christ on La Iglesia Biblica Bautista in Haverhill on Tuesday, reports MyFoxBoston.
Witnesses called cops, who found the 54-year-old walking down a nearby street with an American flag on her suitcase.
They tried to detain the suspect. But she is then accused of trying to strike Detective Sgt. Dana Burrill with the heavy cross.
Officers were able to subdue Cermeno and she was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and malicious destruction of property over $250.
She also faces charges of disorderly conduct, destruction of a place of worship and resisting arrest.
It later emerged that the crucifix had been stolen from a nativity scene that was vandalized at the nearby Sacred Hearts Church.
The display's baby Jesus figurine was also stolen, and replaced with a severed pig's head, on Dec. 26.
It's not known if Cermeno was responsible for that incident.
Haverhill Police says that case, which is being treated as a hate crime by the FBI, remains open.
Cermeno was held without bail and will be arraigned in Haverhill District Court Wednesday.
