Zlatan Ibrahimovic jumps to "perfect player" Wayne Rooney's defence

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has hailed Manchester United colleague Wayne Rooney as "the perfect player" and believes his club's all-time leading scorer in Europe should be held in higher regard. Rooney's goal in the 4-0 Europa League win over Feyenoord on Thursday night was his 39th in continental competitions for United, a tally that saw him eclipse Ruud van Nistelrooy as the leading marksman in European games, and it also leaves him just one behind Sir Bobby Charlton's all-time haul of 249. His latest effort, a delicious dink over Brad Jones, came just five days after he vowed he was "not finished yet" as an England international following the publication of images of the 31-year-old, in Three Lions' gear, appearing worse for wear during the international break. Trump selects candidates for CIA, attorney general: transition

U.S . President-elect Donald Trump has tapped three conservative loyalists and Army veterans to lead his national security and law enforcement teams, including Senator Jeff Sessions for attorney general and Representative Mike Pompeo as CIA director, a transition official said on Friday. The official said retired Lieutenant General Mike Flynn was chosen as the president-elect's national security adviser, a position that does not require U.S. Senate confirmation. All three men have accepted Trump's offer, and the announcements will be made formally later on Friday, according to the transition team member, who spoke on condition of anonymity. Pompeo, 52, a third-term congressman from Kansas, was a surprise pick to lead the Central Intelligence Agency. He was on the House of Representatives intelligence and energy and commerce committees, as well as the committee investigating the 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya. Pompeo has echoed Trump's critic...

Does Trump still plan on banning Muslims from entering the U.S.?

A spokesman for Donald Trump insists he doesn't want to ban "all" Muslims from entering the United States despite the fact that his own campaign website still calls for "a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.” "We never said 'all' Muslims," Trump's spokesman Steven Cheung emailed USA TODAY Thursday night. The president-elect's Muslim ban was brought back into the spotlight after the December statement disappeared off his website and then reappeared Thursday afternoon. Trump's stance on Muslim immigration has been unclear in recent months after Vice President-elect Mike Pence told CNN in October that he was no longer calling for a ban on Muslims. "Well, because it's not Donald Trump's position now," Pence said during an Oct. 6 appearance on CNN's New Day when he was asked why he was no longer critical about Trump's proposed Muslim ban. In December, Pence cal...

'I am not scared of jail' - Jacob Zuma

Johannesburg – An embattled President Jacob Zuma put on a brave face on Saturday at his first public appearance since the release of fresh evidence of alleged corruption at the top of the ANC government. "I have spent a lot of time in jail. I am not scared of jail, I have been there," said Zuma, who under apartheid was jailed for 10 years on Robben Island with Nelson Mandela. During a speech to hundreds of ANC supporters in Dumbe, Kwazulu-Natal, Zuma accused the opposition of "using the courts to scare the ANC". "We are not going to be intimidated," he said. On Wednesday, the office of the public protector released a report on Zuma that fuelled further calls, some from within the ANC, for the president to resign. The investigations focused on accusations that Zuma had allowed the Guptas to have undue influence over government, including letting them choose some cabinet ministers. The report prompted the opposition to schedule a no-con...
